Miami vs. Louisville: Live stream, watch online, TV channel, kickoff time, preview of football game

Two teams in the AP Top 25 poll meet for the first time this season on Saturday when No. 17 Miami travels to play No. 18 Louisville in an ACC primetime headliner. It is the first of several major meetings between teams to take on the ACC’s 10-game conference schedule in 2020 and try to run in Clemson and play for the league title.

Without the traditional division format this season, it really is someone’s guess who will end up as the No. 2 team in the regular season to earn that bid in the ACC title game. Both of these teams want to take big steps forward in 2020 with stars at quarterback in D’Eriq King and Micale Cunningham. If both can get hot in this unusual season, a trip to Charlotte in December is not out of the question.

Both Miami and Louisville looked solid in their season-opening victories against U.S. opponents, with hurricanes taking UAB down last Thursday and the Cardinals running past in-state rival Western Kentucky Saturday night. With their lone nonconference game out of the way, their 1

0-game ACC schedules start this week with one of the toughest opponents they will each face all season.

Stories

Miami: The Hurricanes ’52 -27 win over Louisville was an outlier in the 2019 season. Miami scored 30 or more points just a second time against the FBS competition and it was a 42-35 loss to Virginia Tech. The Cardinals made lots of mistakes and Jarren Williams made them pay with six touchdown passes in the race, and at the moment it looked like Miami’s offense had turned a corner. But the result turned out to be a mirage with losses for FIU, Duke and Louisiana Tech before Manny Diaz decided to make a change at the offensive coordinator and hit the transfer portal for a new opportunity under center.

Enter Rhett Lashlee and his up-tempo attack with D’Eriq King leading, and the initial results against a solid UAB defensive front were encouraging. The Hurricanes totaled 337 rushing yards on 52 attempts (6.5 yards per carry) with three touchdowns and controlled the game by pushing the pace and highlighting their athleticism in the skill positions. So far, so good, but the offensive line still has some work to do before this new look device is ready to hold its end to the negotiation of making Miami an ACC title contender.

Louisville: Quarterback Micale Cunningham is set to become one of the most overlooked and underrated stars in this league. We throw blanket praise at the Cardinals offense for their many weapons, from running back Javian Hawkins to wide receivers Tutu Atwell and Dez Fitzpatrick, but Cunningham is more than a bus driver getting the ball to the playmakers on time. Cunningham sprouts into a dynamic playmaker in his own right, and his ability to stress defense with the vertical passing game will be a headache for opponents of defense coordinators throughout the season. Much will be done by King and his journey to become the Hurricanes starter, but it is possible that the best quarterback in this game is on the other sideline.

Game prediction, choice

So much of Miami’s offseason has been centered around the fact that it has changed its offense, but this is likely to be the one game from 2019, as it would happily take the kind of offensive performance posed by the last coordinator and quarterback. From a betting perspective, you definitely recognize the revenge for Scott Satterfield and a Louisville defense that does not want to be embarrassed again, especially on their home field in prime time. I think Louisville’s offense is more dynamic than Miami’s offense, but the Hurricanes defense is one step ahead of the Cardinals’ defense, especially when it comes to playmakers on the defensive line. The story of the leash is a wash, so I take the dog with me in what I expect to be a shootout of a game. Select: Miami (+2.5)
