During a discussion on the program Friday with her co-host, McCain said that the freshman democratic lawmaker and trumpet were "two sides of the same coin."
"I'll say if you like what Ocasio-Cortez does with Twitter, I think she's like Trump on Twitter, I think she doesn't care, does what she wants, says what she wants and these are two sides of the same coin, "McCain said.
"So if you're upset at Trump on Twitter, you must be crazy about her," added the ABC host.
McCain's comments came as the panel discussed a workshop led this week by Ocasio-Cortez, where she offered fellow Democratic lawmakers to advise on expanding their messages to voters on social media.
The 28-year-old self-proclaimed democratic socialist already has more Twitter followers – 2.42 million – than the other 63 freshman democratic legislators combined.
She has also been criticized by some Democrats in her party for her open criticism of party leadership on issues such as climate change. In a recent political article, several members of their own caucus fought the congresswoman's Twitter style, which they said was not always helpful to other Democrats.
