Greg Serrano of the Peoria Fire-Medical Department said members of his department were sent to a 10-lane boat ramp at Lake Pleasant Regional Park and treated the incident as a drowning.
The scene has since been transferred to MCSO and its recovery team, Serrano reported.
A woman who was at the lake claims the missing man is her husband. She said she's very worried and just wants to see him. They visited from Los Angeles, she added.
Ester Lopez, a woman swimming at the lake when the quest began, expressed her fear.
"I was scared," Lopez said. "I didn't know what happened, because when I was swimming, the helicopter was so close to us and it was scary."
Steven Cordovana, a boater at the lake, did not seem surprised by the incident.
"It's a bit of the holiday weekend, so I think you'd expect something to go wrong," Cordovana said. "But it is pretty sad to hear that it is an actually missed person."
