Democrats who have been trying to build up pressure on McConnell to break with Trump in the week-long funding struggle blasted the GOP leader on Tuesday afternoon and claimed that he and the Republicans were more concerned about "not offending" Trump than reopen the government.

GOP senators, including members of Republican leadership, have repeatedly shot down questions from journalists to potentially attempt to override a Trump veto ̵

McConnell has said that the Senate will not take over state funding legislation unless it is an agreement reached by the White House and democratic democratic leadership.

"There is no way around it. Showing voices in the Senate does not solve the problem," McConnell told Tuesday's reporters.

The GOP leader has twice blocked a House-passed package that will fully reopen the federal government, a quarter of which have been closed since December 22 in a stalemate over Trump's demand for border funding. [19659002]
