While the Los Angeles Lakers managed to pick up a major win against the Denver Nuggets Monday night, the focus remains on LeBron James̵

7; health as he was kept out of the game with soreness in the same ankle that just made him miss 20 games. James did not play against the Nuggets, and he will also sit out of LA’s next two games against the Clippers on Thursday night and against the Blazers on Friday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

In just his second game left after a prolonged absence, James was forced to leave the floor against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday after experiencing soreness in his right ankle. The Lakers dropped both games that James played in since returning to action, and with only seven games left on the schedule, each loss becomes more crucial to playoff positioning. LA currently has a halftime lead over the Dallas Mavericks to fifth place in the West, and they are a game ahead of the Blazers, who sit seventh.

With LeBron’s status unknown going forward, it puts more pressure on a Lakers team trying to avoid the play-in tournament, which includes teams ranked No. 7-10 to finish the last two playoff spots in each conference. James has already expressed his disgust for the tournament after Sunday’s loss and said whoever came up with the idea should be fired. “It’s crap,” James said of the playoffs. “You have to earn your place to be in the post season. No consolation to finish last. It’s corny.” James does not like the idea, but it is a real opportunity for the Lakers to qualify via the play-in tournament.

In addition to not having LeBron in at least a few games more going forward, the Lakers will also be without point guard Dennis Schroder, who sits on the field for 10-14 days due to the league’s health and safety protocols. Schroder kept the Lakers afloat during the absence of James ‘and Anthony Davis’, and with him out until potentially the post-season, it will mean the Lakers need more from other role players on the team. How the Lakers perform over the course of their upcoming stretch of games will go a long way toward determining where they end up in the mail season, and now they do not have their best player in at least a couple of them.
