Jurassic World: Dominion, the third Jurassic World film and sixth Jurassic Park movies, is still a year away but with news of it first stage show in IMAX later this month, we’re starting to get a few more tips on what to expect. We already knew it would take care of the events in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which means the dinosaurs from the park are finally out roaming the world. We saw a hint of it at the end of the last movie and in the recent short film Fight at Big Rock, but next summer we’ll see a lot more.
One of Dominion‘s coolest attractions are that for the first time since the original three main characters all return at the same time. They are Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). However, Dominion explained director Colin Trevorrow to Collider that their story will not immediately affect what Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) do.
According to Trevorrow (who also co-wrote the script with Emily Carmichael; read more about her here) follows the movie “two sets of characters … tell two parallel stories that just run closer and closer to each other and you understand that and you start to understand how they cross each other and then they do.” He knows how to bring the original back Jurassic Park stars is a big thing and says he “does not change anyone … Laura and Sam and Jeff are as much a part of the film as Chris and Bryce are, in terms of screen time, as far as their significance to the story, everything.”
If we were to guess, Owen and Grady are probably trying to solve the immediate problem of dinosaurs now opening roaming around the US, and the other three – who we know have had a fall – are slowly rebuilding their friendship to find some information to stop it. Hopefully it’s better than that, because I just came up with it in two seconds.
Jurassic World: Dominion opens June 10, 2022, but you can watch five minutes of it – which includes a prologue set in the Cretaceous, reportedly showing the mosquito we follow in the first film caught in amber – in IMAX theaters; it will be linked to F9 starting on June 25th.
