Two fights in his UFC career, and Jiri Prochazka may have already earned a title shot as well as a reputation as one of the most exciting athletes on the entire list.
In the UFC Vegas 25 main event on Saturday night, Prochazka went to war with former title challenger Dominick Reyes as the light heavyweights brought him best out of each other in nearly two rounds. After swallowing it on his feet in a non-stop action fight, Prochazka threw an elbow strike over the top and then came back with a spinning elbow that absolutely ruined Reyes and sent him face first on the canvas.
Reyes was down for several moments before finally sitting up again, where he was greeted by Prochazka, who was quick to check on his well-being after the brutal knockout.
The end of the match came 4:29 into the second round.
“It was a very nice match,”
“I’m just floating. After some setbacks from Dominick, I can have no chance of thinking of any plans. I was right in the stream. Then, the rotating elbow, let’s try it. ”
Reyes sought to establish his own strike by throwing a few hard body kicks out and then came back up with a series of stiff blows that caused Prochazka’s head to slam back. Reyes threw with force behind his left hand, catching Prochazka several times, but the Czech fighter was happy to eat a blow to shoot back with a few of his own.
Always unorthodox on his feet, Prochazka threw shots from all angles and then pursued Reyes over the octagon. While Prochazka definitely did damage as shown on Reyes’ face, the former two-time title challenger still turned fire with plenty of pop behind his punches.
When the second round got underway, Reyes’ face was a bloody mess, but he actually put together better combinations and found his goal with regularity. Despite Reyes’ comeback attempt, Prochazka just kept moving forward, firing away with blows to the face and kicking his body as he continued to add to his overall strikes landed.
Again and again, Reyes looked swung out on his feet, but he actually refused to show signs of weakness as he just threw everything back into his arsenal. At one point, Reyes actually rattled Prochazka with a counterattack, and it looked like he might be able to get to the finish line.
Unfortunately for him, Prochazka quickly recovered as the warriors continued to throw bombs at each other.
That was until Prochazka threw the first elbow followed by the spinning elbow that immediately separated Reyes from consciousness when he first dropped his face on the canvas.
Now 2-0 in the UFC, while just landing the third spinning elbow knockout in the history of promotion, Prochazka has positioned himself as a potential title contender in his next fight.
“Yes I am ready. Let’s do it, “Prochazka said of the title fight. “I like my neighbor [Jan] Blachowicz. Now it’s the Glover Teixeira match against Blachowicz, yes? So winner will be my next opponent? Ok, that’s an honor for me. It is a great honor for me. ”
