Syracuse, NY – After his team bolstered the NCAA Tournament bid with a 64-54 win over Clemson on Wednesday, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim used the opportunity in his post-game press conference to explain his team.
The win over Clemson plus Orange’s win over North Carolina on Monday lifted Orange’s NCAA hopes, which had been behind after last week’s road loss at Duke and Georgia Tech.
“It’s hard to go 9-7 in this league, ” Boeheim said. “Very difficult.”
Syracuse will now have to wait until the start of next week’s ACC tournament to get its next opportunity to improve its NCAA profile. Syracuse are the lone ACC team with farewell in the last weekend of the regular season.
Most NCAA fitting experts have Syracuse right next to an NCAA bid, but still on the outside and looking inside.
“I think we’ve done a lot,” Boeheim said. “I really do. I think it’s going to be very difficult to pick the tournament this year. I think our league is not getting enough respect. That’s part of it. I think we have a lot of good “We do not have the big team this year. We have a lot of good teams. A lot of good teams. We will see how it all plays out in the end.”
Boeheim’s arguments on behalf of Orange included no bad losses and a unique record against teams in NCAA Quadrants 2 and 3.
The weakness of Syracuse’s CV would be the lack of a Quadrant 1 victory. Orange is 0-6 against teams that fall into the NCAA’s Quadrant 1.
“All I know for sure is that after 11 today we are 11-2 in Quad 2 and 3 games, which is pretty good,” Boeheim said. “We have not won Quadrant 1 games, but we have won all of them in 2 and 3. We have not had any bad losses and we have no Quadrant 4 losses. ”
Boeheim tried to argue that he was not aware of the bracketologists, but his own words betrayed him for when he criticized mocks, he admitted that he has seen them.
“I’m not looking at it because I see a team that is 0-8 on the way this year and they are in the tournament or on the edge, ” Boeheim said. “I do not keep an eye on those things anymore. I see teams losing items that are still in there. I mean, all that is speculation. ”
