In an interview with BBC News to promote his new book Saves justice, said former FBI Director James Comey that President-elect Joe Biden should “consider” pardoning his predecessor Donald Trump when he takes office on January 20th.
Asked if Biden should take a page from Gerald Ford, who pardoned Richard Nixon in 1974, Comey replied: “I do not know. He should consider it. “While he said he was not sure Trump – who has reportedly hovered the idea of forgiving himself – would accept such a pardon, he added:” As part of healing the country and getting us somewhere , where we can focus on things that should matter over the next four years, I think Joe Biden will at least have to think about it. ”
Of course, a pardon from the president would only protect Trump from federal charges and not the many state crimes for which he is currently under investigation.
