Jakub Vrana is bound for second at Capitals in goal after scoring on this breakaway against Flyers

Jakub Vrana is only in his second full season in the NHL, but he becomes a fan favorite and a dominant player.

The Czech champion scored Sunday against Philadelphia Flyers, who counted his 22nd goal of the season. That's nine more than his previous career high of 13 set last season.

Vrana scored in the third period after Brett Connolly won a board battle and jumped Jakub forward in the neutral zone. The goal gave Caps a 3-1

lead, they would never refrain.

Connolly dished a perfect guide pass and hit Vrana in step. Vrana remained on the spot and then threw a shot through Brian Elliot's five hole.

An intense V screamed and smashed the glass.

"I couldn't tell if he was happy or angry at that goal," ran Tom Wilson.

"It was a big wall game by Brett on the wall there," said Vrana. "I was just trying to get open."

According to Pierre McGuire, Vrana shouted "I'm there, I'm there" to get Connolly's attention to the ice. A good heads up play.

A few shifts later, Vrana got another break. He flung the Flyers Goaltender out with his move, but could not convert, spiked the post on his backhand.

"I miss. Miss of a little, do you know?" Vrana said before he sounded frustrated. "Just the little things … That's okay."

The chapters fought in the first and second period and really took Flyers in the third. A reporter asked Vrana if it was because Capitals were trying to open the game more with Flyers playing their second game for so many days.

"I don't know man. I think we just focused on ourselves," he said. "We're not worried about the big game or not. We just want to focus on our game style and what should we do better. It was clear that it was a strong third time we needed."

Vrana is now bound by Tom Wilson, who also scored against Flyers Sunday and TJ Oshie for second on the team with 22 goals.

"He's great. He's evolved a lot with maturity, like a player, like a teammate," Wilson said. "He is growing a lot this year. He has played really good hockey for us and been one of the best men on the ice for many nights. It's fun to see him skate. I think some of their guys were tired and it seems that he was just like flying away from them a couple of times in the third there. He is a special skater and also has a good finish. "
