LeBron James has another superstar target, and the Knicks may have a competitor for Kyrie Irving.
James liked and Instagram post Friday afternoon displaying Irving in a Lakers jersey, adding fuel to the fire that ESPN's Brian Windhorst started Thursday.
"I think Kyrie is considering the Lakers," Windhorst told Stephen A. Smith. "… I know he's in touch with LeBron and LeBron's going to run to recruit him."
Irving and James have bridged their differences over the past year. Irving forced his way off the Cavaliers, who traded him to the Celtics before the 2017-'18 season. The point guard was tired of playing in James' shadow even after the pair pushed the Cavaliers to the 201
Apart, they have not enjoyed the same success. James reached the NBA finals in his final year with the Cavaliers, but they were swept at Golden State. He has reached the playoffs in his first season with the Lakers, and has now used that free time to start recruiting fellow stars to Los Angeles.
Windhorst also reported that James had "contact" with Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler , two other members of the star-studded free-agency class that is joined by Kevin Durant.
Irving was hurt most of his first season with the Celtics and was in the center of multiple controversies this season as Boston flamed out in the second round of the playoffs against the bucks
The Celtics are reportedly interested in bringing Irving back, though he is fully expected to test the free-agent market.
