Adam Sandler’s latest film Hubie Halloween fell on Netflix on October 7, and it kills it already in the viewers section.
After the success of Murder Mystery with Jennifer Aniston, Netflix expanded Sandler’s agreement on four more movies. His flicks are uber popular on the streamer and tend to attract A-list talent and surprising cameos in the cast. However, a local news anchor just lost his job after appearing in the film.
Alaina Pinto played a guest star in ‘Hubie Halloween’
Set in Salem, Massachusetts, Hubie Halloween spends his first 15 minutes introducing Sandler’s character and the city’s quirky holiday spirit.
In the first scenes, a short newscast comes from a fictional Boston news station on the TV screen. Three anchors for “Channel 4’s Wake Up Boston” are dressed as Harley Quinn.
Real anchor Alaina Pinto appeared as one of the news performers – Erin – wearing Harley Quinn makeup and hair. Pinto’s character sits behind the desk and cheers her colleagues on having the same costume, but she did not curse or perform creepy gestures. It was only for a few seconds and it affected Pinto’s career.

Pinto fired from Boston news station
On October 15, Pinto sent a series of tweets suggesting she was fired from WHDH Channel 7 in Boston for her role in the film. However, she is not a dissatisfied employee. Pinto admitted she filmed a little cameo last year for Hubie Halloween and inadvertently breached its employment contract with WHDH.
Pinto explained that it was an inspection on her part and wrote: “Thus, I wrongly violated my contract with the station, and I understand why the management unfortunately chose to terminate me. I am deeply disappointed and saddened and I hoped that was not how things developed. ”
She also thanked her colleagues and viewers for their support. “Reporting the news to you every morning was an honor and a privilege. I promise to stay in touch and keep you updated on the next chapter – the future is bright! “Pinto wrote.
She joined the Boston Channel 7 team in 2016 and worked before that at a station in Vermont.
Pinto is moving forward
The former morning anchor is pushing on, but some fans believe the news station may have overreacted. Pinto also posted the note on his Instagram account, and followers expressed that they were bummed over the firing.
Many wished her well and others tagged Adam Sandler in the post in hopes he could intervene. Emmy-winning radio host Billy Costa encouraged her to contact someone at the Boston WCVB for a new opportunity. So far, the WHDH has not commented on the matter.
According to Forbes, Hubie Halloween is about to break one of Netflix’s “Top 10” entries in the comedy genre. If it sticks to its number one spot, it will be the longest running series for a comedy on the streamer.
Depending on how the rest of the month goes for the film, there is a possibility that it could become the biggest comedy on Netflix for the year.
