LAS VEGAS – Shocking the world is nothing new to the former UFC bantamweight Holly Holm.
Holm turned the MMA world, if not the whole sport world, upside down when she beat out Ronda Rousey four years ago in Australia. The title-winning performance remains one of the biggest disturbances in the campaign's history.
Now Holm (12-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) is on time with a fight with two division matches Amanda Nunes, the most dominant female force in the sport at the moment. UFC 239 is a moment to make history and yet people ask Holm about the end of his career.
By 37, Holm said people would like to know when she retires with the achievements she made in boxing and MMA. But she's not finished trying to break.
"I understand that other people might think this is a shock, but for me to come in, we really think we can do it," she told fans after an open training at MGM Grand hotel for Saturday's event at T-Mobile Arena. "So to win this fight it won't be shocking to us. But I hope the people who think I can't do that, I hope it shocks you."

As for the result, the public predicted the power balance will not be disturbed. Holm is again underdog in advance by UFC 239, but not so much favored to lose as before his fight with Rousey.
It is no wonder when Nunes (17-4 MMA, 10-1 UFC) has stopped three of her past four opponents with a raft of fists. In her latest fight, she sent Cris Cyborg face to the canvas first to capture the poisonous belt and deliver Cyborg her first loss for 13 years.
Holm said there was nothing she didn't know about the challenge ahead of her. All she knows is that the skills she brings to the table are unique.
"I know that power is one of her things," Holm said. "It's not just the fight with Cyborg. I think it's the one that stands out most. It's the latest, and Cyborg is known for the same, so it was so big of a big deal.
" There are many times that people have given her harder times that do not stand and beat with her. … Here's the biggest thing about all that: I'm not Cyborg, I'm not Shevchenko, I'm not Miesha Tate – I'm Holly Holm, and it's going to be a completely different fight. "
If Holm beats Nunes, she wants an argument to be considered the greatest female giant in UFC history. Rousey was at her top when she met Holm, and that is also Nunes. But Holm will leave this term for others. Her legacy will be written in her performances.
Retirement is something you do when you finish trying to be the best, and Holm is far away.
"Everyone asks me what the final day must be when I retire, "she said." But I'm fighting here for a title so I can't even think about it. "
