Gerard Way joined in 2018 with a couple of new songs, and he starts the new year by covering an 80's classic and tying it to the trailer for the Netflix customization of his The Umbrella Academy comic. Way's rendering of "Hazy Shade of Winter" pops up in the trailer, with the former singer, My Chemical Romance who is assisted by his former bandmate Ray Toro.
The live action series will premiere on Netflix on February 15, and the trailer just went online. Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton and Mary J. Blige are among those who have been thrown into the adjustment. The film is centered on a unique family reunited after hearing about the death of the billionaires who reared them to save the world. The reunification of the alienated family comes just as the threat of a global apocalypse arrives and forces them to work together again. Check out the trailer containing "Hazy Shade of Winter" below.
As can be heard, the Way cover is more faithful to the Bangles version highlighted in the movie Less End Zero . This version was even a cover of the song originally popularized by Simon and Garfunkel who appeared on their 1968 album Bookends .
