A racing franchise returns with a new title in September. Codemasters have revealed GRID the non-numbered next iteration in the eponymous series.
With GRID players will tackle asphalt racing in a mix of circles, city streets, and point-to-point layouts. They will compete in a single player campaign for the chance to stand up against anyone other than Fernando Alonso and his FA Racing esports team.
Over 70 cars, 12 locations, variable time / weather
GRID will contain over 70 modern cars from manufacturers across the globe. In light of the game's name, the cars shown so far have linked more to the motor racing side, with GTE racers and classics like GT40. For the first time the franchise, Porsche will officially operate with the middle 911 RSR confirmed in these early shots.
Players will find 12 sites in GRID to master their machines. Tracks will include the Brands Hatch genre staple it works – Shanghai, Indy and others. One of the advertising images also confirms San Francisco. Each location has multiple layouts.
Perhaps it is most surprising that the tracks have varied time and day. It is not yet clear whether it will change during the race or not.
Codemasters promise realistic damage in GRID as well. What's more, according to the release "Too much contact with the same breed will see them emerge as a nemesis that will stop at nothing to avenge themselves in the race."
A confirmed car in the official announcement should pique readers & # 39; interests. Fernando Alonso's Renault R26 F1 car, the car he won the championship in 2006, is featured in GRID and F1 2019 this year. The man himself will be in GRID and you will aim to race against him.
Fernando Alonso becomes your rival
Alonso has signed as Race Consultant for GRID . During the game, players will stand against the two-hour F1 champion's FA Racing esport before finally getting the chance to drive against Alonso even in R26.
"After competing for F1, Endurance and Stock Racing, GRID is the perfect game for me," Alonso said. "I'm glad the studio has added both myself and my racing team to the game. GRID offers so much variation and I'm excited about the challenge when gamers get up against me."
Post-launch Content Confirmed
Codemasters games have typically not had much in the way of DLC this generation. DiRT Rally 2.0 changed it with its season approach, and it seems that Codies continues it with GRID . An Amazon UK list for the game shows that Ultimate Edition will include access to three seasons of content:
- Season 1: Hypercar Track Day Pack
- Season 2: Racing Hatch Track Day Pack
- Season 3: GT Track Day Package
There is no further information on what these packages will contain. In addition to the above, Ultimate Edition owners will have three days of early access as well as unique versions of existing cars, player cards, player banners and liveries.
GRID completes the British developer's triangular attack on the race genre, which complements DiRT Rally 2.0 and the forthcoming F1 2019 . This will be the first new game in the long running franchise in half a decade. The last title, GRID Autosport arrived in 2014 and will appear on the Nintendo Switch this summer. The franchise started technically in 1997 with TOCA Touring Car Championship which makes it one of the oldest still-active franchises in the genre that only needs Need for Speed.
GRID launches September 13 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Keep up-to-date for many more news on the title as this date draws closer.
