Government officials confirm 1,857 new cases, the second-highest recorded daily count Pennsylvania news



HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Ministry of Health confirmed at. 12.00 on 17 October that there were 1,857 additional positive cases of COVID-19, which is the second highest total day in total since the start of the pandemic.

There are 1,673 cases that have a positive viral antigen test and are considered likely cases, and 648 patients that have a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure.

There are 2,119,850 patients who have tested negative to date. Of the patients who have tested positive to date, the age distribution is as follows:

  • Approx. 1% are aged 0-4 years;
  • Almost 2% are aged 5-12;
  • Nearly 5% are aged 13-18;
  • Almost 14% are aged 19-24 years;
  • Almost 36% are aged 25-49 years;
  • Approx. 21% are aged 50-64; and
  • Approx. 21% are 65 years or older.

The following regions experienced significant increases among 19- to 24-year-olds each month from April to now in October:

NC – Approx. 7 percent of cases in April to nearly 34 percent of cases so far in October.

SE – Almost 5 percent of cases in April to approx. 17 percent of cases so far in October.

NE – 6 percent of cases in April to approx. 20 percent of cases so far in October.

NW – Almost 7 percent of cases in April to approx. 19 percent of cases so far in October.

SW – About 5 percent of cases in April to approx. 13 percent of cases so far in October.

SC – Approx. 7 percent of cases in April to approx. 10 percent of cases so far in October.

In nursing homes and personal care homes, there are 24,482 cases of COVID-19 and 5,361 cases among employees, a total of 29,843 at 1,021 different facilities in 62 counties.

According to reports, 5,608 of the total deaths have occurred in residents from care or personal care facilities.
