Episode 5 of Game of Thrones was a big deal on several fronts and not just because it was full of death and finally gave us Cleganebowl. Nothing was more effective than Daenery's decision to go Mad Queen and burn King's landing. Before she did, she killed Varys – but he also tried to kill her. Before the series's final, there were some potentially big tracks on how Dany could die in episode 6.
If you are eager to look forward, check out the last trailer and episode 6 pictures. Besides that, we also have an in-depth look at the most important character that did not make it to the show, Young Griff, and a discussion about how Daenery's decision means we will never see her breaking the wheel.
Every time you think it can't get worse, it does. In Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5, "The Bells," burned Daenery's, in a rage and revenge, almost all of the king's landing to the ground. This happened after the soldiers had already surrendered the city and dropped their swords. There were two key shots illustrating how catastrophic the bloodbath and the loss of innocent life were.
The first shot was the chattering of the fire when Dany and Drogon woven through the city and beat everything under them. I first thought she fled straight to the Red Keep, in a final, beheading strike again Cersei and her Queensguard. That she instead used Drogon as a massive, fiery lawn mower to burn the city in nice rows was badly hurt. (That said, the previews of episode 6 have only shown us Danys back, so we're back to waiting for the final to find out what her personal response to her actions is. Our other key people, like Tyrion and Arya, seems rightly shellshocked.)
The second shot was of cats of wildfire when the city burned; they looked like little breaths of green smoke in the middle of the carnage. Even in Mad King's worst case, where he would have averted any cache of wildfire in the city, he would have done a fraction of the damage Dany did. What he was planning to do was considered beyond the blemish of Jaime, to the point that he broke a sacred promise. Where is this massacre in that hierarchy?
Here are five theories coming into episode 6, the final episode of the series. The chances of any kind of happy ending are far away; Let's just hope to break right at this point.
