If you are a player or if you are just visiting The Cheapskate occasionally you already know Epic games gives away a free game every Thursday. Every week is a new treat, with the last few weeks handing out gems like GTA 5, Borderlands 2, Hitman, Watch Dogs 2 and more. Last week̵

7;s giveaway was Star Wars: Battlefront 2. If you missed it, do not make the same mistake two weeks in a row: Right now you can chin Galactic Civilizations 3 free.

Galactic Civilizations 3 may not have the visceral appeal of Battlefront 2, but it’s a favorite with fans and critics alike. The 4X game (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) is inspired by classic turn-based strategy games like the Sid Meier Civilization series, but puts the game across an entire expansive galaxy rather than an abused planet.

You can play as a single player or take part in conquests containing up to 128 players. You will explore, settle worlds, defeat rumarmadas and eventually conquer all known space. Our friends at GameSpot rated the game as “fantastic” and concluded that “Galactic Civilizations keeps its focus right where it’s needed – on excellent foundation. Progressive pacing makes huge space available and paradoxically personal, while the large number and variety of tools and opportunities at your disposal allow you to succeed and win if you can outdo everyone else. “

If you’re new to Epic’s weekly gift, here’s how it works: If you do not already have one, sign up for your free Epic account. Then just get your free game – yours to keep forever. You do not even have to install it right away if you do not want to.
