Former MMA fighter Tyler East shot fatally in domestic combat

Former MMA fighter Tyler East was shot and killed Monday in New Mexico, according to police. He was 30 years old.

New Mexico State Police say they responded to a home violence call Monday night in the Albuquerque suburb of Los Lunas, according to several local reports. When police arrived, they say they found East dead along with a woman with a gunshot wound.

According to police, East shot his girlfriend and pulled her out of a house before an unidentified man shot and killed East. The suspect in the East shooting fled the scene before police arrived.

According to KOB4, the woman, whose name was not released, is hospitalized in stable condition.

5-6 as a heavyweight fight across various organizations, including Bellator. His last fight was at Legacy FC 60 in 2016. He was the brother of former UFC fighter Cody East, according to MMA Junkie.

East was arrested in 2020 on charges of stealing money from his dead grandfather’s bank account in addition to battery and resisting arrest after allegedly fleeing police, according to KRQE. According to MMA Junkie, he was arrested several times over the past 12 years for domestic violence, including kidnapping and aggravated battery.
