Florida woman accused of allegedly threatening to kill Kamala Harris – Boston News, Weather, Sports

(CNN) – A woman in Miami is charged with allegedly threatening to kill Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

“Niviane Petit Phelps knowingly and intentionally made threats to kill and inflict bodily harm on the Vice President of the United States in violation of Section 18, Section 871 of the United States Code,” from February 13 to February 18, according to the complaint.

On March 3, Special Agent David Ballenger was notified of a threat to kill Harris, according to the complaint. The threats were sent by Phelps to his imprisoned spouse in the Wakulla Correctional Institution via JPay, a computer program that allows media sharing between non-imprisoned and imprisoned people.

A Secret Service special agent assigned to the case obtained the videos and photographs that Phelps sent to his spouse.

“The videos (which are relevant to this investigation) generally show that Phelps complains and speaks angrily to the camera about her hatred of, among others, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris,”

; the complaint read. “However, in those videos, Phelps also made statements about killing Vice President Harris.”

In one of the videos, Phelps said: ‘Kamala Harris, you must die. Your days are already numbered, ”the complaint added.

In another video on February 18, Phelps said, “I’m going to the gun area. … I swear by God, today is your day you die. 50 days from today, mark this day, ”

Phelps was also shown on a shooting range in a photo dated two days later, according to the complaint. “On February 22, 2021, Phelps applied for a concealed gun license.”

On March 3, Secret Service and detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department went to Phelps’ residence to try to interview her, but she refused to speak to them at the time, according to the complaint.

“Two days later, I received a call from Phelps complaining that her employer had put her on administrative leave,” the complaint reads.

On March 6, a secret service agent went to talk to Phelps at home.

According to the complaint, Phelps said, “She was angry at the time that Kamala Harris became vice president, but that she is ‘over it now.’ Phelps expressed how she believes Kamala Harris is not actually ‘black’ and how during the inauguration Kamala Harris disrespectfully put her hand on her clutch instead of the bible. Phelps went on to say that someone told her that America would choose who they choose, so Phelps had put aside her anger about the vice president. Phelps said she’s over it now. ”

CNN has reached out to Phelps’ public defender for comment.
