Ellen Details COVID-19 Experience in first showback

Thanks to those who reached out with kind words and support throughout her recovery, DeGeneres expressed her desire to have “hugged every single one” of her fans.

“It would probably have been dangerous and illegal,” the host joked.

Ellen DeGeneres Show put a break in production in early December on the last day of the show’s seasonal event “Twelve Days of Giveaways”. As a result, DeGeneres invited the same audience back to the show, which missed out on their gifts in December.

The host went on to recount the dramatic events on set the day she received her COVID-19 test result.

While sitting in hair and makeup, the 62-year-old remembered her assistant Craig stepped in to tell her she had tested positive.

“And then everyone around me ran away,”

; DeGeneres said. “It’s fun, people just get really scared and they run. Some have not returned since. ”

Following the news, DeGeneres immediately left the studio when her COVID security team informed anyone who had been in contact with the virus.

When one of the show’s executive producers, Andy Lassner, heard the news, Ellen claimed that “he literally ran out of the party at full speed.”

Following the news, DeGeneres quarantines at home in a separate room from his wife Portia de Rossi. For the first three days after getting the virus, DeGeneres reported that she slept for 16 hours a day and woke up with back cramps on the fourth day. As the pain persisted, she was prescribed painkillers and muscle relaxants by her doctor.

“Jackpot,” she joked. “This thing pays off.”

When painkillers did not help, doctors finally put DeGeneres on a steroid package, which eventually eased along her recovery.

Following her experience with the virus, DeGeneres informed her audience that although she was not aware of this before, back pain is now a significant symptom of COVID-19. She did not experience any other significant symptoms.

“I did not lose my sense of taste,” she recalled. “Even though I actually wore crocs with socks for a day, you have to be the judge.”

Now fully recovered, the talk show host claimed she still has not decided where she got the virus from.
