LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A large vaccination site in Los Angeles has such a large surplus of doses of COVID-19 vaccines that it allows anyone 18 years and older to go up and receive a vaccination.
The state Department of Emergency Services reported Wednesday that many Johnson & Johnson vaccine appointments at the federal-run Cal State LA superstore would be completed.
While only people in qualified groups can make advanced appointments online, Cal State LA offers vaccinations to anyone over 18 from now until Sunday, when the city of LA takes over the operation of the site from the federal government.
“To the extent that appointments are not completed, there may be a limited number of appointments available as walk-ups for people over the age of 18 between tomorrow and continuing until Sunday when the management of the site is transferred to the city,” said CAL OES spokesman Brian Ferguson told CBSLA in a statement on Wednesday. “Providing on-site vaccinators with some flexibility to fill vacancies allows us to expand the rate of vaccination in California in an efficient, effective and equitable manner.”
Vaccination eligibility opened on April 1 for anyone 50 years and older, and as of April 15, anyone aged 16 and over will be able to get the vaccine anywhere in California.
