President Trump slammed a reporter during a pool spray on Thursday, calling the journalist a “lightweight” after the president was pressured over his election defeat.
Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason repeatedly asked Trump if he would admit the election to Joe BidenJoe BidenTrump says he will leave the White House if Biden is declared the winner of the Electoral College Note: Biden faces a tough road to a promise to cure the nation̵
Trump interrupted as the reporter tried to intervene and apologize, saying, “I am the President of the United States. Never talk to the President that way,” before Trump said he would move on to other people’s questions.
Before addressing Mason directly, Trump began giving a lengthy answer to the question, reiterating his allegations of electoral fraud and comparing the election to that of a third-country country.
Trump has previously had contact with Mason. In September, the two had an exchange in which the president asked Mason to remove his mask while asking a question that the reporter refused to do.
The pool spray on Thanksgiving, in which the White House urges journalists to observe and sometimes ask questions of the president, marked the first time Trump has taken questions from the press since Biden was named president-elect earlier this month.
