Diddy calls on General Motors … and says the company needs to step up and open its wallet to black companies, arguing that GM̵
7;s promise to pay big bucks is flawed.
Diddy wrote a hard letter Thursday, opening with, “The same feet that these companies use to stand with us in solidarity are the same feet that they use to stand on our necks.” Diddy says his REVOLT network was an example of black-owned media that GM promised to support through advertising, but he does not feel the company has done enough.
In his letter, Diddy claims that GM spent $ 3 billion on advertising in 2019, and according to his estimate, only $ 10 million was invested in black-owned media.
As for what he thinks should happen, Diddy says, “If black society represents 15% of your earnings, black-owned media should receive at least 15% of advertising spending.”
He ends the letter with a threat, saying that he and the black community are willing to “carry our dollars”, that is, take their money elsewhere if GM and other companies do not step up.
