Earlier this month, Capcom published Devil May Cry 5 who was a long post in the DMC franchise. While Devil May Cry 5 was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games in 2019 prior to its release, the game's voter Joey Camen has been branded after several players in the game uncovered controversial YouTube videos labeled racist and homophobe.
The controversial videos showed that the Camen allegedly wore blackface and using racist language. People also discovered a separate video where the voice actor sports a wig while making transphobic jokes. Immediately after the discovery of the offensive materials, Camen was quickly deleting the videos from his YouTube channel and has since released excuse for the community.
The camen tried to explain that the videos were an "edgy" type of comedy and that he never portrayed himself in the blackface when he just had a multicolored mask. The controversy drew attention to a ResetEra user named Skittles commenting that while Morrison is the only person in color in Devil May Cry 5 he is pronounced by a white actor who sent racist videos on YouTube. Speaking to Eurogamer said the Camen:
"I'm sorry and I really apologize to anyone who was offended. See, I've been a professional standup comedian, actor, and voice actor all my adult life. I do voices and imitations to live "I'm also Jewish, and I grew up in Detroit in primarily black neighborhoods. The voices and characters I do reflect my life experiences and admiration for the people I grew up with. The videos I did were comedy parodies with characters that spoke in their language. "
The videos submitted in Camen & # 39; s YouTube channel were regularly uploaded over a year-long period between 2016 and 2017. In Camen & # 39; s own description of his channel states that it is a place for "outrageous comedy characters". Although Capcom has not yet made its official statement about the controversy, a spokesman from the Devil May Cry 5 explained to the developer that the views expressed by the Camen do not reflect Capcom's in any way. A few weeks ago, Devil May Cry 5 also found controversy when it was discovered that the PlayStation version censored a scene in certain regions. Several players wondered why the Western PS4 version is the only platform being censored as the game's counterparts on other platforms showed short nudity. Currently neither Capcom nor Sony have commented on the problem.
Devil May Cry 5 is available now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
