Destiny 2’s new Iron Banner Guns unveiled for next season

Bungie has unveiled a set of four new weapons that will be available in the next season of Destiny 2 for players willing to take up the challenge with its Iron Banner competitive event. Slate with cannons includes a handgun, a sniper rifle, a machine gun and a shotgun. The former two are weapons previously released in Iron Banner in Destiny 2’s first year, while the latter two are brand new.

The new weapons were shown in a blog post from This Week at Bungie, but the developer did not give much in the way of details. It did not even tell us which cannons are coming back, but the two recurring weapons are not that hard to identify. They are the 1

40 hand-per-minute energy cannon Finite Impactor and the aggressive frame Energy Sniper Rifle Occluded Finality. Both were released with the Warmind expansion in year 1.

Bungie unveiled four new Iron Banner guns that came in season 14. The submachine gun and shotgun are new weapons, but the Finite Impactor handgun and the occluded final sniper rifle are new pistol reels that first appeared in the Warmind expansion.

We’ve not seen these two cannons in rotation for a while, and as we’ve seen with other old Iron Banner weapons getting updates too late, it’s very likely that these two will have a whole new pool of perks, when they show up in season 14. Finite Impactor in particular seems to be able to shine in the crucible with some perks. In any case, random rolls must bring the cannons up to the level of Destiny 2’s other current cannons. We’ll have to see what Bungie brings to the new shotgun and machine gun, and whether they find a way to shine in either PvP or PvE.

In addition to new cannons, Bungie suggested that it work on a new banner-themed armor. For a while now, Bungie has re-released older versions of Iron Banner armor, making the older look accessible with the new Armor 2.0 mod system. Although you can only earn that armor during given a week-long Iron Banner event, it’s been a bit disappointing to get new versions of old stuff, especially since Bungie will soon be rolling out its armor system, allowing you to make any armor look like any other piece.

Bungie says the new armor designers are on their way, but do not expect them in season 14. “These sets will not appear in a few seasons, but we’ve heard your wish for some new excavations,” reads the blog post. We do not know exactly when they will be released, but Bungie says it will share more information in the future when they become available. The blog post also detailed some changes to weapons coming next season that will break down a few gun types and weapon benefits that have been dominant in the crucible.

Meanwhile, the last Iron Banner event of season 13 starts on April 13th and runs until the weekly reset on April 20th. Destiny 2s season 14 is scheduled to launch on May 11th.
