Dan Gainor: ’60 Minutes’ hit job at Gov. DeSantis makes it clear the press fears it’s his time

The 2024 presidential election is underway. You can tell that because left-wing “60 Minutes” was a huge lie about one of the top Republican frontrunners.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was the latest victim of hit-job “journalism.” The once-reputable news magazine devoted three months to an investigation that sought to dismantle one of the most successful COVID-era governors.

Sunday’s show drew everyone stopping out with attacks on DeSantis. It stated that Florida’s vaccine distribution was “triggering anger.” It’s always code for Democrats / Journalists who̵

7;m sorry it all went well.

The ridiculously false story claimed, “Hollywood moguls, socialists in New York and tourists from abroad” jumped others in line. Then, in one of the most bizarre lines seen in a “news program,” “60 Minutes” said, “It sounds like ‘The Hunger Games.'”

BOTCHED ’60 MINUTES ‘DESANTIS HISTORY LATEST MAIN STREAM MEDIA HIT PIECE POTENTIAL 2024 GOP CONTENDER

Usually, insane comparisons like the one from the activists that journalists interview to make their point. They are still underlined, but this one came from correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi.

For those who have missed the popular movies and books, “The Hunger Games” is about gladiatorial combat among children. Twenty-four of them try to slaughter each other, and only one has to survive.

So yes, just a little different from Florida’s vaccination policy.

No matter what, Alfonsi was just getting warmed up. The story showed her that she was following the governor at a press conference and talking about her accusation of “paying for play.” She accused the governor of working with Publix because of campaign contributions.

“Campaign funding reports obtained within ’60 minutes’ show that weeks before the governor’s announcement, Publix donated $ 100,000 to its political action committee,” she explained.

Nothing could be further from the truth – except, of course, the story of “60 minutes”. CBS simply cut the entire press conference where DeSantis proved them wrong. The governor went on to explain how Florida originally did not even begin working with Publix. But when it came time to expand the state’s program, Publix was the company that stepped up first.

BAIER: ’60 MINUTES ‘INTERVIEW’ FALLS APARTMENT ‘AFTER CBS NEWS’ FALLS SHORT ‘OF JOURNALIST STANDARDS

When the CBS report was based on publicly available video, which it censored from history, the bias was not hidden for long. Conservatives and Republicans were predictably furious.

Right-wing people are crazy about the biased news media. Imagine.

The news cycle after Trump is not as hyper as the last four years, so this journalistic disaster has remained in power. The result has been terrible for CBS. Democratic Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner didn’t just hit “60 Minutes.” He said the report was “intentionally false.” He added, “’60 minutes’ should be ashamed.”

So far, “60 Minutes” hopes the controversy is blowing over. And most traditional journalists abandoned pictorial concepts as a shame long ago. A spokesman for the network told DailyMail.com that the video was edited, “as we always do for the sake of clarity.” The Daily Mail did not name the spokesman, but I think it was a guy named Pinocchio.

CBS DEFENDS ’60 MINUTES ‘DESANTIS REPORT Despite promise to deliver’ FULL, FAIR AND CONTEXT REPORTING ‘

Another CBS spokesman issued a statement Tuesday defending network history. “We requested an interview with Government Ron DeSantis, which he declined,” read part of the statement. As if any healthy person would accept being a part of a hit job like this. Almost humorously, CBS admitted, “Our story Sunday night speaks for itself.” Yes it does. But what it says about both “60 minutes” and journalism is not good.

For its part, DeSantis gains the benefit of being a media target. Conservatives loved President Donald Trump every time he rumbled with the press. He was their gladiator. If CBS and the rest of the news media put DeSantis in that role, voters will unite behind him faster than my skin would burn under the Florida sun.

DeSantis was on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday and made the central point that “many Americans no longer believe in corporate media for this very reason.” The reason he refers to is that most major news organizations are left-wing activists and not neutral news providers.

If they made news, CBS would have mentioned that Florida is covered by Publix stores, and as DeSantis said, “It would be mistreated not to use them as a distribution site.”

The Bashing News media is a mix of baseball, football and basketball for conservatives. It is a popular sport and it is never out of season. This “60 minutes” story is why. To quote the governor, “they lie and lie and lie and lie.”

The press spent the entire 2020s promoting New York government Andrew Cuomo as the voice of COVID-19 competence while they based DeSantis. It turns out that Cuomo killed 15,000 people by sending infected patients into nursing homes, and DeSantis ran his state competently without crushing the economy.

Journalists got it 100 percent backwards. I wonder why.
