COVID NYC update: Cinemas will soon reopen for the first time with 25% capacity amid pandemic



NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – Cinemas across New York City will soon be able to reopen for the first time since being shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

From March 5, theaters in NYC will be allowed to reopen with 25% capacity, which is in line with the rules of the rest of New York State.

COVID precautions such as allocated seating are in place and theaters must not exceed 50 people per seat. Screen.

Other rules include requirements for masks, social distance, additional staff and improved air filtration, ventilation and cleaning standards must be adhered to.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said no testing is required for film customers. He also announced that employees in cinemas do not qualify for vaccination eligibility in the 1

b group.

Cuomo also announced that billiards and pool halls could reopen March 5. Halls are limited to 50% capacity outside of NYC and 35% capacity in NYC. Masks and rules of social distancing will be in force and each party must be assigned a table to avoid confusion.

“From day one, we have said that our COVID recovery is not a choice between public health and the economy – it must be both – and in New York we are demonstrating how to do it safely and smartly,” Cuomo said. “Thanks to the hard work and commitment of all New Yorkers, our infection rate is now the lowest we have seen in three months, and therefore we will now reopen various leisure activities throughout the state, including billiard halls, weddings and movie theaters in New York City. . As our infection rate continues to decline and the vaccination rate continues to rise, we will continue to reopen various sectors of our state’s economy and focus our efforts on building our state better than it was before. “

In other entertainment news, almost a year after the NBA closure, the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks offer approx. 2,000 fans each for their respective games Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, in New Jersey, it was also announced that fans can return to some arenas and stadiums starting next Monday, March 1, Government Phil Murphy announced Monday.

Any place that seats more than 5,000 people is allowed to open with 10% capacity if it is indoors and 15% if it is outdoors.

It was also announced that houses of worship and religious services in New Jersey can now operate at 50% capacity immediately.
