PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – We’re starting to see some smoothing of new Covid cases and admissions in Arizona.
After breaking the figures, state data show that we have come down in the last seven days from the reporting peak of approx. 10 thousand cases a day. That’s not really good news when you’re still considered the worst in the nation, if not the world … in terms of new cases.
State data may show subtle signs of improvement in new Covid cases, but some health experts are reluctant to agree.
“No, we should not celebrate at all. I mean, look, it̵
CBS 5 Investigates reviewed 15 years of death records in Arizona, revealing a number of trends.
Humble said until we show that cases have been falling for several weeks, only then will we get a better idea of where we stand.
“We are leveling at this level, not at a good level, a terrible level. I mean, we’re the global hotspot. Think about it; we are the global hotspot, ”said Humble.
He believes the numbers do not tell the whole story that more tests still need to be done and he is not the only health expert to suggest the same exact thing.
“Some people do not want to find out they are positive because they do not want to stay home for two weeks,” Humble said.
Dr. Joshua LaBaer of ASU Biodesign Center said we should manage 80,000 to 100,000 tests a day.
“This is how we stop the spread if we can get people who have the virus to stay at home,” LaBaer said.
But according to the latest data from the health department, we only manage about 25,000 tests a day, even though we test more people than ever before in the state.
According to the Covid Tracking Project, Arizona does not do so poorly when it comes to testing, compared to the rest of the country; in fact, we are the 15th in the country for testing per. inhabitant.
