Contact tracking, the Western ‘great hope for the suppression of Covid-19, is in disarray



PARIS – When countries across the West came out of the lockdown in the spring, governments trained legions of investigators to identify and isolate people potentially infected with coronavirus. The aim was to prevent a re-flare of the pathogen.

Four months later, the systems for finding people who can transmit infections, known as contact tracing, are in disarray. Europe and the United States each register tens of thousands of new daily infections.
