(KMVT / KSVT) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is asking the public to consider other options if you're choosing to drink raw milk.
Raw, unpasteurized milk can have harmful bacteria, viruses or parasites. The CDC says drinking raw milk can possibly expose you to E. coli, listeria or salmonella. Public health experts with South Central Public Health District say symptoms can include diarrhea and vomiting.
"We all have a presence as far as what we want to consume, but essentially what pasteurization it heats up the milk to a specific temperature. for a set period of time and it is harmful that can be in the milk.
In Idaho, there is a raw milk program through the State Department of Agriculture and producers to meet special requirements if they want to produce raw milk.
