The Department of Human Services said it is still preparing the details, including the timeline of the transition to United Healthcare members. UnitedHealthcare members will be sent messages that provide a choice in managed care organizations (MCOs). They can choose amerigroup of Iowa or Iowa Total Care for their coverage.
"Our primary priority is to ensure that our members receive the best care and that our program is sustainable in the long term. The governor and I have both been firm in our MCO & # 39; Welcomes her support for this effort, this is the right thing to do for our members and taxpayers, "said DHS director Jerry Foxhoven.
"Today, I concluded the negotiations between the state of Iowa and UnitedHealthcare because of terms that I thought were unreasonable and unsustainable," said Governor Kim Reynolds. "From the day I was sworn in as governor, I was obliged to secure a sustainably managed care program that protects patients, supports providers and keeps insurance companies accountable. We have continued to work in good faith with the legislator to make improvements to the managed care system, including a significant increase in funding over the past year. United Health Care has unfortunately continued to make additional claims that I found unacceptable, including a provision that removes remuneration for performance measures that would hold them accountable. More details with specifications will be given in the coming weeks.
