WICHiTA, Kan. (KWCH) A fatal disease affecting deer in Kansas continues to worsen. It is called chronic wasting disease.
CWD affects the brain, spinal cord and other deer tissues.
Over the past seven years, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism says 168 animals have tested positive for the disease.
"The animal that has CWD is most of the time, you cannot tell it by looking at it if it is sick or not. But if it is sick, wildlife and parks will not recommend eating anything diseased wildlife, "said Shane Hesting, a wildlife disease coordinator with the KDWPT.
