Thor calls Mjölnir and Stormbreaker. It makes the thunder god go through a drastic physical transformation, we do not see halfway through the film. When we first see Thor's new form, it is originally played to grin, but as Endgame unfolds, it turns out to be a reflection of where the character is emotionally.
Reactions to Thor's fat body were mixed for obvious and understandable reasons. For some, Endgame 's jokes, which specifically related to Thor, came across fat phobia and body twitching, while others did not see the film's sense of humor as being malevolent, as Thor had no weight affecting his dependence .
In a new interview with Variety, Hemsworth explained that at some point during Endgame 's production, Thor was losing the weight he gained in the five years after he killed today's Thanos on his farm. But Hemsworth pushed for the character to keep his mass because, apart from the 90 pounds of prostheses it took to complete the transformation, he enjoyed the new psychological space it represented for the character. He said, "It was so different from any other way I played the character. And then it took a life of its own." However, one drawback was the number of people who insisted on touching the actor while he was in a costume: [1
9659006] People just kept coming and jamming me like a big bear or rubbing my stomach as if I was pregnant. Or trying to sit on my lap as I was Santa Claus. You get a lot of love. I felt like an old man, an old grandfather, with a lot of kids around. And then you get sick of it when people come up and grab your stomach. "Don't grab me like that!" I know how my wife felt when strangers would come up and rub her stomach.
It is strange to think that some of the most complicated character developments we would see for Thor would come past his binge drinking in The Big Lebowski s costume department. But it is still alien to consider that none of this would have been possible if Hemsworth ended up being thrown as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine or Duke in GI Joe The franchise, of which he came close to doing. "At that time, I was sorry," Hemsworth Variety said. "I run out of money. But if I played one of those characters, I wouldn't have been able to play Thor."
Just think of the alternative dimension we could live in right now! The same could be said for how things could have played out if Hemsworth had been a major part of the restarted Star Trek franchise after making a short look like George Kirk in 2009. Talking about his decision not to to reproduce his role as Kirk in the next Star Trek film the actor reasoned that he was simply not impressed with what the script offered the character:
I did not feel like we landed with a reason to revise it yet. I wouldn't be overwhelmed by what I had to bring to the table.
