YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND – Instead of downing medical syrups when you suffer from a severe cough, take a bite (or two) of chocolate instead.
A new study shows that chocolate-based medicine works better than cough syrup by suppressing cough according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution .
The study at the University of Hull used 163 patients who prescribe them either regular codeine-based cough syrup or a chocolate medicine called ROCOCO.
Results from those taking the chocolate medicine showed "significant improvement" of symptoms within two days compared to those on the cough syrup.
According to researchers, an alkaloid in cocoa is better at over-coughing than codeine.
The study recommends that those with cough suck on a piece of chocolate to relieve their symptoms.
