ViacomCBS announced on Tuesday that its CBS All Access streaming service will be renamed Paramount + in early 2021
The rebranded service will take on rivals including WarnerMedia’s HBO Max, Disney’s Hulu and Disney +, and NBCUniversal’s Peacock as traditional media companies dive into streaming.
“All data suggests, and we are still relatively early in the streaming world, that overwhelming people will subscribe to more than one service,” ViacomCBS President and CEO Bob Bakish said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Tuesday morning. “That’s why differentiation and brand positioning are so important. With Paramount + we see it in spades. … Sports are compelling, news and this real cross-section of entertainment under these iconic brands, we think it tells a story. We think it’s engaging to consumers. ”
A new show on Paramount +, “The Offer,” is a scripted, 10-episode series about producer Al Rudy’s experience of making “The Godfather.” Other new shows include “The Real Criminal Minds”, a true crime documentary based on the existing CBS show and a revival of BET’s “The Game”.
They join previously announced shows such as SpongeBob SquarePant’s spinoff “Battle Coral” and a new SpongeBob movie to be released in early 2021, where the service will be the exclusive streaming destination.
The company said these shows add to CBS All Access’ existing offering of more than 20,000 episodes and movies from MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, Paramount Pictures, CBS, original series and more. The company said that up to the rebrand, the service will be expanded to more than 30,000 episodes and movies.

Earlier, the company’s Chief Digital Officer, Marc DeBevoise, said CNBC prices would not change, but the company told CNBC on Monday that it would not confirm price information for Paramount +.
