A pistol poorly killed four people in a home in California before killing himself on Sunday night said the police and ending an hour-long departure.
The incident was one of the most violent this year in the city 1 million people in Silicon Valley, San Jose Police Department Sgt. Enrique Garcia said in a statement.
Police encircled the house on Sunday evening after receiving calls by shot fired. The suspect's wife, daughter and niece fled home and told officers that the gunman had shot at several people inside.
During the standoff, officials saved a man and a woman from the front room of the house. Both died in a hospital from gunshot wounds, Garcia said.

With two family members unaccounted for, Garcia said police made entry and found the male suspect deceased in the side yard. Two female victims were found dead inside the house.
Victims identities have not been released or information on the circumstances they had with the suspect. Family members did not have any recorded history of domestic violence, Garcia said.
Authorities are investigating the incident as a suicide even though a motive has not been determined. Because no shots were heard after the police arrived, the authorities believe that the murder has occurred before the standoff.
Police will interview witnesses and those who could escape, Garcia said.
"Our hearts go out to the family and society who have just lost family members in this city. This is a terrible act of violence," San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said in a statement to KGO TV.
