The San Diego Padres lost to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, but that did not stop a fan, a self-described “multitasking momma,” from scoring a major victory during the competition.
The California mother and Padres fan went viral after she was caught and caught a bad ball with her bare hand while holding her baby in the other arm at San Diego’s Petco Park.
The catch took place below the top of the sixth inning as Chicago knife-hitter Jake Marisnick flew a pitch from Yu Darvish. The ball came from the top deck and bounced for once – before mom stretched up into a sea of hands and took the remarkable grip.

“Right hand grip – baby in tow,” said one advertiser.
Padres posted a video of the catch on Twitter along with the caption “Moms are amazing.”
San Diego’s KNSD TV identified the duo as Lexy Whitmore and her 3-month-old son, Maverick.
Whitmore caught while her husband was away training in the Navy Reserve, the station reported. She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, but visited her hometown of San Diego while he was away.
“So when the guy hit the bad ball, it came down,” Whitmore said after the game. “I saw it jump, and it – honestly, it just came in handy for me – I did not think it was like this amazing catch – and I did not think it would go viral. But it knows, came to me, and there there was no doubt that I did not want to catch it. “
“When it became this big viral thing, and people share, I was a little surprised, but I think it’s because it’s a little insight into all the multitasking moms out there, that kind of does, you know, all these things each day, but it’s just a little cut into it, “the mother continued.

Whitmore noted that her left arm is “kind of buff” because she routinely holds Maverick in that arm while not doing other things, according to KNSD-TV.
She also targeted those who criticized the catch over fears that her baby might have been injured.
“All I have to say is that we mothers, we know where our children are,” Whitmore added. “I knew where he was and I know I did not endanger him, and if anything, I kept him a little out of danger by catching it.”
