In recent years, the company has begun to release a lot of SUVs designed to target these gaps as the brand phases out slower selling sedans. Cadillac debuted the compact XT4 crossover at the New York International Auto Show in 2018 and the mid size XT5 back in 2015.
Considering how strong GM's other brands are – such as Chevrolet and GMC with SUVs and trucks – it is Strangely, Cadillac took so long to get into the SUV space, said Jeff Schuster, president of global forecasts at LMC Automotive, a car tracking group.
Escaladen is a remarkable exception. It appeals to certain types of customers who either need an extraordinary space or buy the car for their styling as a status symbol ̵
As customers move out of sedans and compact cars, they move into cars like XT4, XT5 and XT6, which Cadillac releases year after rivals have already been on the market.
"I think the jury is still out, frankly, where they go from here and how much they can accelerate within the premium segment," said Schuster. "They are not quite there yet, but they do what they can. They get the vehicles out which I think is something they should do before and now we start to see them."
However, XT4 and XT5 have been strong salespeople in their segments, suggesting that Cadillac can play well in the market, even though it's late for the game.
