Briley reacts to public scream over cherry trees, cancels Monday's removal | News

NASHVILLE (WSMV) – Nashville Mayor David Briley responds to the public condemnation of the removal of 21 cherry trees in the Riverfront Park for the NFL Draft.

In a tweet, he canceled Monday's removal of the trees and said he informed the NFL and Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp that trees should be removed intact and replanted elsewhere in the city.

Briley said that if any of the trees become sick or dead when removed, they should be replaced with new healthy trees. The 21 trees currently located in the Riverfront Park will be replaced in the Riverfront Park, in addition to adding 17 more.

] District 12 Councilman Steve Glover on his Facebook page thanked the public for their support for having the trees stored.
