Breath of the Wild fans are trying to mount Sidon as soon as possible

Every month, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild speedruns get a little alien. For example, today we have a new category of review titled “mount%”, where runners try to ride on all the animals in the game. This includes standard creatures, like horses, but it also includes everyone’s favorite shark, Sidon. After all, you are driving Sidon under a boss part of the open world, so technically he qualifies here too.

This fun concept was developed by speedrunning extraordinaire Joedun, who has previously made headlines for things like completing BOTW at 100% ̵

1; without damage. In an email, Joedun explained that this was initially perceived as a Sidon-only challenge that popped into his head as he took the harmless run. But he said it soon became clear that the only way to make it an official speedrun category recognized by society was to work out some rules. It didn’t take long before he decided to include all types of mounts, just to make things more interesting.

What’s cool about this speedrun category is that at the time of writing, it’s the only thing that requires fans to do anything with Lord of the Mountain. The ethereal snow-white mount appears only under extremely specific conditions – once a day for a growing crescent. To make this work, Joedun had to find out exactly what was going on under the hood. It can show up at any time within those 24 hours of the game, and only if you are not completely in the Satori mountain region, Joedun says.

“It also turns out that the time it spawns is also random,” he said, which is why sometimes casual players will see the difficult horse cut off almost immediately after seeing it. It is also the biggest “pain in the ass” during this exact reason, he said during the video.

As an added bonus, the release of the race is celebrated to the public with a friendly competition. The one who gets the fastest mount% time before May 6th wins $ 100, although second and third place also get some cash for their problems. Better yet, the advertising video breaks down the current route developed by speedrunners into the category, meaning that anyone who takes this on does not start from scratch. This of course includes an entire section dedicated to riding Sidon, the star’s attraction.

So far, Joedun has been able to finish the race in just under an hour – but hopefully others will be able to shave that time fast enough.
