We have an absolute blast playing through The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on our Nintendo Switch and it's more than two years old now – completed it on Master Mode, mate.

But now we have a whole new adventure to dive into after Nintendo released a sequel to the masterpiece game during their E3 Direct conference.

All we got was a trailer and some nuggets of info to go off, but the world is already super excited for a new game.

So pick up your Master Sword and dust off that paraglider, as we attempt to figure out everything there is to know about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

1; What do we know so far?

All we truly know so far is that a sequel is in the making, and that Zelda and Link will be in it.

It appears that Link and Zelda are exploring a deep crypt (maybe deep below Hyrule Castle?) before discovering a mummified corpse.

We ' ll break down the trailer more below, but we think that corpse is Ganondorf, because who else could really be?

The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild

Spoilers for the Wild —- you defeat Ganondorf at the end of the game, but the final cutscenes are only defeated "for now", leaving enough wiggle room for the big bad to make a Voldemort-return to commit some more shenanigans.

Link collects every power and claims the Master Sword at the end of the game and appears to be all-powerful. But it can get a bit bored to play as an over-powered character in a new game, so we think Nintendo will do one of two things.

Either they will drive a way of Linking all his abilities and weapons – maybe he throws all his gear in the bin – or, more interestingly, we get to play as a new character , Zelda.

In the trailer, Zelda appears to have visited a hairdresser since we last saw here, sporting a short bob look … which is perfect for keeping your vision clear in combat, don't you think? [19659004] It's a common trope in J-RPGs for the princess at her hair when she is out for an adventure, so maybe we will be taking on the role of Twilight Princess in a sequel?

Apparently, Nintendo wanted to create more DLC for BOTW and thats how the sequel was born.

In an interview with Kotaku, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said: "Initially we were thinking of just DLC ideas. But then we had a lot of ideas and we said," This is too many ideas, let's just make one new game and start from scratch. "

We expect this game to take a darker turn and be a bit more spooky, so prepare for scares.

Breath of the Wild 2 release date – When does it come out?

Don't expect to be playing Breath of the Wild 2 on your Switch this year, or maybe next year.

Nintendo threw up a splash card at the end of the trailer saying the game was "in development" and, considering the massive scale of the first game, we would imagine it will take at least two years to crank out a sequel.

Breath of the Wild is one of the most well-received games of all time. Nintendo would have known how successful the game was in the year following its release, so they would surely have started working on a sequel almost immediately after its release.

That gives us a year's head-start on development, if we're being generous.

We would expect the game to come out if and when Nintendo release two new switch devices – because it makes sense to release a sequel to the biggest Nintendo Switch game on the Switch sequel right? Zelda games typically take a long time to make (there was a six year gap between 2011's Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild ) so maybe Nintendo want to take their time with a sequel.

The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild [19659015] We also have Link's Awakening coming out later on this year (2019), so we would think Nintendo would like to spread out their Zelda games a little more.

If we were betting sorts, we would put our money on February 2021, but we really hope we don't have to wait that long.

Breath of the Wild 2 trailers – what does it look like?

E3 debuted with extremely short, minute-long trailer for the new game that returns the return of Ganondorf.

Zelda and Link are busy exploring a dark cave with runes glowing in the torch-light.

As mentioned, Link has the Master Sword, and Zelda is rocking a new hair-do.
