BREAKING: Massive power outage reported in Alexandria | ALXnow



Thousands of Alexandria residents are in the dark Friday night due to a massive power outage.

Kl. 20 reported the utility over 12,750 customers without power. By 20:20, the number had dropped to 6,846.

More than 3,500 customers are also without power in parts of Arlington across the Alexandria border.

The affected neighborhoods include Del Ray, Potomac Yard and Fairlington. Some have reported that the power is flickering.

Power recovery is currently estimated between 22 and at 1, according to Dominion’s website. The cause of the outage is a malfunction at a substation, according to a company spokesman.

Update at 21.35 Alexandria police are urging residents to treat dark traffic signals as a four-way stop.

“Dominion Power has reported a major power outage throughout the city of Alexandria,” the APD said. “This outage has resulted in many power outages. Treat all powerless junctions as a four-way stop. Pay attention and drive safely. ”

Update at 21.15 – Power was restored briefly but is off again, according to a Dominion spokeswoman. A number of residents from across the city said on Twitter that they are still without power.
