UVALDE, Texas (KTRK) –
A 12-year-old boy has been charged with capital killings in the gunshot of a 24-year-old professional boxer in Uvalde, Texas, police said.
Boxer John VanMeter was shot and killed in his home on Wednesday night.
The Uvalde police say that VanMeter's boyfriend called 911 around 8 pm to report an armed robber shot his girlfriend.
When the police arrived at the house, they found VanMeter to lie in the living room with a shot on the wound in the head.
He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead
The 12-year-old is held in a juvenile detention center on capital duty.

The boxing community in Uvalde remembers VanMeter.
Tree City Boxing Club wrote about him on Facebook and said, "It's a sad sad night, not just for Tree City Boxing, but for our entire community. Please keep VanMeters in your prayers." Clutch City Boxing also posted him on Facebook and wrote "RIP to the young champ John Vanmeter, gone too fast."
