Boston Marathon makes schedule change due to rainy weather forecast

MARATHON MONDAY INCREDIBLY WET. DOUG: REALLY? KELLY ANN: IF THERE'S ANY PIECE OR GOOD NEWS, THE MODELS ARE TRENDING WARMER AND SOMETHING I'M WATCHING CLOSELY. WE'LL WATCH THAT THROUGH THE DAYS AHEAD AND OF COURSE YOU UPDATED BECAUSE AT THIS POINT I'M SUGGESTING WILL MAKE A RUN TOWARDS 50'S AS EARLY AS 9:00 A.M. If you are looking for a new age and night, we will be back at the end of the day. BUT INCREDIBLY WET AND THAT'S SOMETHING YOU'LL HAVE TO FACTOR. OF COURSE ALL THAT RAINFALL MAKING IT FEEL QUITE A BIT COOLER. THIS IS THE THING. WE'RE WATCHING THE SHOWERS VERY CLOSELY AND THIS IS ONE OF THE MODELS INDICATING AS EARLY AS 6:00 A.M. WE COULD SEE A FEW SPOTS CLIMBING IN THE 50'S. A LOT OF TIMES MODELS HAVE A HARD TIME WITH TIMING THE WARM FRONT. WATCH AS YOU MOVE TO THE NORTH, PORTS SMITH AS 55 AND LAWRENCE AT 59. THERE'S A BIG RANGE OF TEMPERATURES AND IF THE WARM FRONT WOULD TIP FARTHER SOUTHWARD WOULD MEAN 40'S FOR US AS WELL. THAT'S WHAT WE'RE WATCHING AND WHY WE'RE KEEPING IT IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE FOR THE MORNING FOR THE UPPER 40'S TO LOW 50'S BECAUSE THE CHANCE IS THERE FOR THE WARM FRONT TO BE CLOSER. WE HAVE INTO THE AFTERNOON ON MONDAY AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO CLIMB WELL IN THE UPPER 50'S AND NEAR 60 BUT NOTICE IT'S STILL ACT. THE WORST OF THE RAINFALL WILL BE IN THE MORNING BUT I EXPECT LINGERING SHOWERS INTO THE AFTERNOON. CLOUDS AROUND FOR US RIGHT NOW ESPECIALLY AS WE HAVE BEEN NORTHWEST BUT WITH SUNRISE AROUND 6:09, THERE WILL BE A LITTLE COLOR TO THE SKY, ESPECIALLY IN BOSTON. OUR TEMPERATURES ARE DOWN TO THE MID TO UPPER 30'S FOR INLAND SPOTS AND CHILLY IN CONCORD AT 32. FOR MOST LOCATIONS, MILD. THOSE UPPER 30'S TO LOW 40'S EVEN VERY CLOSE TO WHERE WE SHOULD BE THIS TIME OF YEAR. A LOT OF CLOUDS MOVING IN AND YOU'LL SEE THAT MOST OF TODAY. IT WILL BE GLOOMY FOR US AND TEMPERATURE WEISS NOT BAD. TONIGHT WE'LL SEE THE TEMPERATURES HOLD STEADY INITIALLY AND THEN CLIMB THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT AS RAIN MOVES IN. THE RAIN MOVES IN AFTER MIDNIGHT AND WE MOVE TOWARDS PREDAWN HOURS TOMORROW MORNING E'RE REACHING TOWARDS THE MID 50'S WHEN THE SHOWERS ARE HEAVIEST IN THE EARLY HOURS. WAKING UP AT 6:00 AM, SHOWERS FOR BOSTON BUT THE SHOWERS AND CLOUDS LINGER TOWARDS THE CAPE. MANY OF US EXPECTING A HIGH NEAR 70, THE CAPE AND ISLANDS TOPPING OUT IN THE 50'S. QUITE A BIT COOLER AS THE CLOUDS LINGER. SEVEN-DAY FORECAST INCLUDES THE WET OUTLOOK AND WILL MOVE IN SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE WORLD OF THE RAIN MONDAY MORNING WITH THE MARATHON AND WE'RE TIMING IT OUT CLOSELY BUT

Boston Marathon schedule change due to rainy weather forecast

Because of wet and cool weather in the forecast, the organizers of the Boston Marathon are making changes to the scheduled start times for runners. The Boston Athletic Association said it is planning for conditions similar to last year's race. StormTeam 5 meteorologists are also forecasting rain and temperatures below 50 degrees at the starting line in Hopkinton. Because of that, runners assigned to the fourth wave will start their race immediately after those in the third wave. Originally, a 25 minute gap was scheduled between those two waves. Under the new plan, Wave 3 will start at 10:50 am and Wave 4 will follow immediately afterward. BAA organizers said the goal is to reduce the amount of time spent waiting in the Athletes' Village prior to starting the race. In addition, the BAA said it added additional medical aid along the course, adding things like walls and heaters to tents and distributing ponchos to volunteers. "Our race history has shown that the forecasted conditions will cause unique challenges for athletes, including participation in the wheelchair division, handcycle program, duo program, and runners competing with prosthesis. Eligible athletes Who elects deferral will receive a complimentary entry into the 2020 Boston Marathon. For those athletes, qualifying standards will be selected if deferment is selected, "the BAA wrote in a statement.
