Bill de Blasio’s bid to cancel the Mets sale is unclear

We’re tired of Mayor de Blasio’s holy devotion a long time ago, but now he’s topped himself – secretly working to kill the deal to sell the yards to Steve Cohen.

Major League Baseball is set to vote on the sale Friday, but the mayor hopes to prevent it from going through by taking advantage of the fact that Citi Field sits on land the city partially owns. As The Post has reported, he has told MLB that he will do everything he can to interrupt the sale.

It would be bad enough if de Blasio was just still bitter over the 1986 World Series when the Mets defeated their beloved Red Sox. But he has even stupider motives: He does not like Cohen because he is a right-wing hedge fund billionaire.

More, the mayor apparently intends to force a sale to the rival consortium led by Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez, whose political leanings are more to his liking.

Totally lost in its deliberations: New Yorkers ̵

1; specifically long-suffering Mets fans looking for an owner who invests the money (and managerial) to produce a world championship or three.

Yes, the mayor pretends to be upset that the Cohen hedge fund paid large fines for insider trading. (Does he think A-Rod is a portrayal of virtue – or is steroid abuse OK in de Blasio’s book?) But it was eight traders who actually begged for the crime, not Cohen himself.

In addition, State Attorney Jessica Ramos, a former de Blasio town hall assistant, is seeking. She openly favors the Latino couple A-Rod and J-Lo – but primarily wants the Mets to make big “societal benefits” to (politically affiliated) nonprofits.

This is not just outrageous; it smells. Instead of focusing on the many crises the city is facing, they waste Blasio’s public resources on a (legal) extortion scheme at the expense of his constituents.

And New York is stuck with this twit for another 14 months.
