Members of the Biden administration admitted they were behind in getting the coronavirus vaccine into American arms across the country, but blamed the delay for “bottlenecks” and the lack of a comprehensive plan from Trump’s White House.
Ron Klain, President Biden’s candidate for chief of staff at the White House, said a vaccination plan “did not really exist when we entered the White House.”
“The fundamental difference between the Biden approach and the Trump approach is that we want to take responsibility for the federal government,” Klain told NBC News’ ‘Meet the Press’ on Sunday. ”
Xavier Becerra, the nominee to head Health and Human Services, linked Biden̵
The plane in a nose. And we have to pull it up, ”Becerra told CNN. “And you will not do that overnight. But we pull it up. We have to pull it up. Mistakes are not an option. ”
“But first you have to save people, you have to save the economy,” he said. “President Biden made it clear: it does not happen overnight.”
He avoided a question on CNN’s “State of the Union” about when anyone who wants a COVID-19 vaccine “will be able to get one.”
“Well, it’s a matter of ensuring that we coordinate with the states, because it is not the federal government that is putting the vaccine in the arm,” he said of the “state of the Union.”
“But we try to deliver it or deliver the resources and they help make it happen. And what we want to ensure is that the locals, when they do this, have a plan that is clear, ”Becerra continued.
The pressure on a timeline for the vaccine by CNN anchor Dana Bash, Becerra said he could not specifically say when it would happen, but claimed the Biden administration would be transparent about their plans.
“We give people equal information. We’re not trying to hide the ball. And once we have that information, I guarantee you we will share, ”he said.
Becerra also defended Boden’s pledge to commit 100 million vaccine shots in his first 100 days in office, saying the president was working on data he had before entering the White House.
“Once we are in the house and take care of business, we will be able to get more precision, but you will have to give us a chance to find out what is going on in the cockpit, what gets this plane to nose so seriously, “he said.
Klain said that reimbursement of the 100 million shots would still be “quite an achievement.”
