Armaan Franklin moves to Virginia – inside the hall

Sophomore guard Armaan Franklin announced Thursday night that he will transfer to Virginia. Franklin originally entered the transfer portal after the firing of Archie Miller.

Franklin was one of the most improved players of the big ten last season, averaging 1

1.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Fight for Hoosiers. He was one of Indiana’s most reliable players throughout the year.

But midway through the season, Franklin suffered an ankle injury and was sidelined for two weeks. When he returned, he did not quite perform at the level he showed earlier in the year. Despite being hampered, he still delivered a significant boost to the Hoosiers, as when he hit a game-winning pull-up jumpshot to beat Iowa.

In the late February fight against Rutgers, Franklin landed awkwardly and injured his right foot, a separate injury from his rolled ankle. After missing a few more games, he appeared in the Indiana season-ending loss to the Rutgers in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Then, shortly after Miller was fired, Franklin entered the transfer portal and reportedly heard from, among others, Xavier, Butler, Minnesota, Louisville, Penn State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Georgia and Virginia.

“We want to make sure that while we apply, we also carry out our due diligence in promoting matters,” India told Franklin, Arman’s mother, Inside the Hall, after entering the portal. “… Everything happens so fast, so we just want to make sure we have all our options available.”

On Thursday, Franklin announced that he was leaving Bloomington after two years with the program. Originally, there were six Hoosiers in the transfer portal, four of whom have now returned to IU. Al Durham traveled to Providence and now Franklin is gone too.

Hoosiers still have many options in the backcourt with Khristian Lander, Rob Phinisee, Anthony Leal, Trey Galloway, Xavier Johnson and Parker Stewart.

If Joey Brunk returns next season, Indiana still has two scholarships available to fill out. It is likely that they will continue to pursue the options in the transfer portal.
