Companies like iFixit and Simple Mac may disagree. They believe the butterfly keyboard system (which allows for very thin but stable keys) is inherently fragile and even the smallest amount of dirt can lose the mechanism. It is also possible that weak sources make them prone to break down. And while any third-party keyboard system is still covered by the free warranty, waiting for a seemingly chronic problem like this is still a pain ̵
Although it is unclear how many people are affected, the problem is sufficiently widespread enough that some encourage Apple to duplicate butterfly keyboards altogether. They believe Apple has compromised reliability (not to mention tactile feel) in the name of a thinner design, and don't expect the situation to improve until Apple repeats its strategy.
