Apple may have accidentally confirmed the existence of an M1X MacBook Pro

Apple’s keynote from the Worldwide Developers Conference came and went this year without a new MacBook Pro – but it seems that was not the original intention! Excitingly, Apple quietly included the phrases “M1X MacBook Pro” and “M1X” as tags on its YouTube video of the live keynote, as spotted by Max Balzer (via 9to5Mac).

Not only does this sound like tacit confirmation of at least one new arm-powered MacBook Pro, it also confirms rumors that it will include a new M1 chip and that Apple is likely to market it as an improved “X” variant, as it used to to do with its advanced iPads, rather than going straight to the M2.

Three weeks ago, Bloomberg̵

6;s Mark Gurman reported that we would see redesigned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros “as early as this summer”, the ones that would bring back the SD card slot, HDMI port and some sort of beloved trip-friendly MagSafe . charging socket; offer twice as many high-performance CPU and GPU cores; and supports up to 64 GB of RAM. I really thought advertising them on WWDC would be the perfect way to distract from recent developer turmoil – do you know by advertising a MacBook Pro that is actually for professionals?

Maybe it was the original idea, but instead we got a completely jam-packed key filled with quick brand software announcements. Check out our supercut below for the condensed video version, or read our list of the 15 greatest WWDC 2021 announcements if you just want the highlights.
